Minutes of February 24th, 200- Meeting

POST MEETING opened by Commander Bill Thomas in Bldg #6 after a social hour 5th Anniversary Birthday Party hosted by the Auxiliary. During the social hour Rex Jennings and Jim Bradford from the Long Beach Veterans Hospital made all aware of the excellent progress at this facility and plans for continued improvement. Paul Lambach noted the need for additional volunteers. Following up on the Auxiliary idea, Jim Bradford suggested we consider a raisin tree to plant in honor of Dave Van Aken and will provide more information later.

Commander Bill asked members how we could share in the cost of their Birthday Party and it was decided that each member would personally contribute $10. Jim Mueller presented this money to the Auxiliary to show our appreciation for all they do for our post.

Sr. Vice Jim Crowley distributed Marine Corps pamphlets on the Feb 28, 2009 Drum & Bugle ceremony at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Attendance is free to the public.

Jr. Vice J. Lingren suggested we assign members to make phone calls to encourage attendance at our next meeting. All agreed to share in this task.

QM Dan Schmaltz distributed a 1-31-09 computerized financial report showing the Opening Balance, Receipts, Disbursements and Closing. Balance. Post voted approval for $140 special purchase of 500 Memoriam Poker Chips to honor Dave Van Aken. QM Dan obtained 200 free to allow this lower cost. QM dist a VFW Unmet Needs Program Application Form for all to review. Post also voted approval to pay the $185 cost for a post Domain site to be arranged by QM Dan.

Commander Bill asked all to present their Patriots Pen & VOD entries for 2009 as soon as possible. Our current post winner made such an impressive presentation we requested he send us a copy so we may use at our Memorial Day proceedings. More information is forthcoming.

R. Coronado dist a sign up sheet for the next Qtrly breakfast at O'Malleys on main street at 9:00 AM March 4, 2009.

Jim Mueller made a brief presentation on the proper display of medals on VFW covers and how to properly handle during meetings.

Election of 2009-10 Officers is set for next meeting. (1st nominations)

Next regular meeting is Tues Mar 24, 2009 at the Naval Weapons Station. (6:00 PM Social, 7:00 PM Meeting) Refreshments to be furnished by the Auxiliary and Dan Whitney.
