Minutes of June 24^th, 2008 Meeting

POST MEETINGopened at 7:05 P.M. by Commander Bill Thomas in Bldg #6 with the normal formalities.

Commander Bill introduced new member William Trease, a Life Member transfer from Vista Post 7041. Bill introduced the District Installation of Officer team

Comrad Paul Mackey was honored with the draping of our Charter. Paul Pased away at his home in Leisure World on June 24, 2008 and will be forever in our memory. Memorial service will be at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 370 Juniper Ave in Long Beach on July 5th at 2:00PM

Shep Finkelstein was introduced as a new member and gave a brief history of his military service in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Commander Bill reviewed the Memorial Day Ceremony and our sponsorship of the local National Guard Unit and their schedule before depoyment to the War Zone. We will coordinate with Laurie Fulton (Methodist Church) to determine the best method to dispense donated funds to our troops.

Commander Bill has received man positive comments from tose who attended the Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Lee Elementary School on June 16, 2008. Students participated in the Ceremony.

Jr. Vice Jim Crowley and his wife Georgia reviewed their (3) day interesting roat trip to San Francisco, Solvand, Hearst Castle and beyond. They also passed around a brochure for all to review.

QM Dave presented the financial report showing the Receipts, Disbursements and Current Balance. Next Audit is scheduled in mic July.

Buddy Poppies collections were also addressed and a special thanks was made to the efforts of 12 post members. J. Lingren was #1 in donations. This was one of our better years thanks to more members volunteerng in this worthwhile effort.

Jim Mueller will attend the new Joint Forces Services Center opening on July 4th and man the fron desk to help any returning veterans and will pass out new VFW and American Legion membership packets.

Next regular meeting is Tues July 22^nd, 2008 at the Naval Weapons Station. (6:00 PM Social Hour-7:00 PM Meeting)
