Minutes of Mar 25^th, 2008 Meeting

POST MEETINGopened at 7:00 P.M. by Commander Bill Thomas in Bldg #6 with the normal formalities after introducing Tyler Brisco as our Post 2008 Eagle Scout candidate. Tyler's proud parents (Don & Debbie)and his Scout Master were also in attendance. Commander Bill also introduced Dedan Brozino who gave details of the Long Beach 3rd Annual Salute to the Services Day on April 26, 2008.

Acting Officer of the Day, Dominic Amatangelo, introduced Al Ducharme as a newly transferred member. Dutch gave a brief account of his service in the Navy during World War II.

Commander Bill informed that he is assembling a packet for new members and that they should be escorted to their first mtg. He also noted our need to support Community Events and informed of our attendance at the recent Chamber of Commerce mixer at the grand opening of the local Hampton Inn.


Sr. Vice Commander Dan Schmaltz stated the need for our post to do more to support veterans and presented a $500 check to QM Dave that was generated by a donation to Dan's web site. This donation will be presented for the benefit of homeless veterans.

Jr. Vice Commander Jim Crowley gave details of the recent meeting with Jack Gordon on the status of our Bldg #6 arrangements with the Naval Base. Many improvements are being reviewed i.e., parking, ladies room, etc.

QM Davepresented the financial report showing an opening balance, receipts, disbursements and closeing Balance.

Buddy Poppies were made available at the meeting for members to sign up and present to the public prior to Memorial Day. QM Dave still has many poppies still on hand and should be contacted for details.

Sr. Vice Dan Officer Nominating Committee chairman presented names and positions at our 1st meeting for nominations and all positions were filled. 2nd nominations will be held at our next mtg on April 22nd. Installation Ceremony will be held on May 27th Mtg.

Jim Bradford has invited all members to the VA Hospital Garden Center celebration of Earth Day on April 18, 2008 (9:00 AM-1:00 PM. Their Newsletter was distributed to all present at the meeting.

Next regular meeting is Tues April 22, 2008 at the Naval Weapons Station. (6:00 PM Social Hour-7:00 PM Meeting)
