Minutes of November 27th, 2007

POST MEETING opened at 7:00 P.M. by Commander Bill Thomas in Bldg #6 with the normal formalities after an enjoyable dinner provided by our Ladies Auxiliary and a humorous roasting of our QM Dave by Commander Bill. QM Dave was honored for his many years of exemplary service to the VFW.

Officer of the Day Robert Moore introduced Larry Kirkham, Dist Inspector,who was conducting his yearly audit of our books, Clifford Telasky, Robert Rouse, Ed Bond and John Harper. Cliff is a World II and Korean War veteran who retired from the Air Force after 32 years of service. Ed Bond served in the Navy during World War II and made as many as 50 trips to Saipon on Kaiser built boats. Robert Rouse served the Navy during World War II and survived the suicide bombing attacks at Okinawa. John Harper also served in the Navy aboard a Cruiser. All were welcomed to our meeting and thanked for their service.

Commander Bill introduced Robert Chermak, as the Dist #2 QM and asked for his comments. Robert noted the closing of 2 posts in the district due to many reasons with one being the lack of military records that are required by the district

Veterans Day is Nov 11th (Sunday)
at 11:00 A.M. and our commander noted the need for our members to attend. The American Legion is in charge of details this year and will keep us posted on progress. QM Dave noted his speaker plans and that a Nave Ensign has agreed to be the Chaplain. Our Commander stated the Public Address System will be on hand for our ceremonies and we will only need to resolve how the system will be stored. We may need to store in Bldg #6 temporarily after the ceremony. The American Legion and our post will be billed separately for $300 each. Our Commander and Jim Crowley will appear on Studio Café local TV with Jo Dawson on Nov 1st to discuss our Veterans Day plans.

Commander Bill noted the need for volunteers for the District Snowball Express at the Disneyland Hotel. The organizers are throwing a party for the sons,daughters,husbands & wives of Military killed since 9-11. He also reminded all of the Seal Beach Dec 7th Christmas Parade and asked that we assemble by the SB pier by 6:30 PM. The next District meeting will be at the Anaheim Holiday Inn on Jan 25-27 2008.

Sr. Vice Commander Dan Schmaltz and Judge Advocate Bob Coronado attended a ceremony at the Valley View Elementary School and were most impressed with their school tribute to Veterans.

Commander Bill and Jr. Vice Jim Crowley represented the VFW and American Legion at a Studio Café TV Taping of a tribute to Veterans Day Veterans.

QM Davepresented the financial report showing the opening balance. QM Dave also noted that Poppy proceeds were above last year due mainly to Jerry Lingren's efforts who collected 50% of our grand total. Dave stated that we need more participation by all members. Approval was given for a $100 donation to the Base Christmas party and another $100 for the Navy base needy family fund.

Christmas Luncheon is planned for December 10th, 11:30 AM at Finbars Restaurant in Seal Beach. A sign up sheet was distributed at meeting but additions may be called to QM Dave (562-493-8227)

Next regular meeting is Tues Jan 22, 2008 at the Naval Weapons Station. (6:00 PM Social Hour-7:00 PM Meeting) Note: Members voted to cancel Dec Meeting.
