Minutes of September 23rd, 2008 Meeting

POST MEETING opened at 7:00 P.M. by Acting Commander Jim Crowley in Bldg #6 with the normal formalities.

Paul Lambach introduced new member Dan Evanoff who gave an interesting history of his service in the Marine Corp. Dan served on the Admiral Staff in LB before deployment to Vietnam in 1967-68

Jim Crowley will contact Bill Thomas to determine progress that has been made on the Nov 11th Veterans day program and will coordinate with the Legion on how we will proceed

Jr. Vice Dave asked all members to sign up for Veterans Day Poppy donations. They will also be available at our Oct meeting for those who have not yet participated. Dave also passed out donation forms for Memorial Walk of Honor at the JFTB in Los Alamitos. Members voted to purchase 2 bricks ($400) in honor of Dave Van Aken and Robert Soto.

QM Dan Schmaltz distributed a computerized financial report showing an Opening Balance, Receipts, Disbursements, and Closing Balance. It was recommended that post funds to support the troops be generated toward the SB Naval Weapons Station. Jim Crowley volunteered to contact the base Morale/Welfare dept. for their recommendations.

District 2 Recognition Luncheon on Nov 1, 2008 at Knotts 10:00 AM -5:30 PM See QM Dan for details.

Jerry Lingren was named to head a Volunteer committee to determine how our post may best proceed to assist Veteran Causes. Paul Lambach, Perry Watson, Dan Evanhoff and Dan Whitney will assist Jerry on this very worthwhile post effort.

Newsletter discussion was delayed until next year to determine which format may be used to minimize expenses. QM Dan will experiment with an E-Mail version for the balance of the year.

Next regular meeting is Tues Oct 26, 2008 at the Naval Weapons Station. (6:00 PM Social, 7:00 PM Meeting) Refreshments to be furnished by the Auxiliary and Shep Finklestein.
